Author Visit - Liz Flanaghan September 2025
We were thrilled to welcome author Liz Flanagan to our school for a truly inspiring visit! Liz spoke passionately about her books and her writing process, sparking excitement and creativity in all the children. Her visit helped develop the pupils’ love of reading, understand what writing a book involves, and encouraged them to believe in their own writing abilities. One unforgettable moment was when Liz asked, “Who here loves reading?”—and nearly every hand shot up! Liz told us it was the biggest positive response she’s ever had. What a proud moment for our school!
Why do you like reading?
Liz Flanagan - "It is the closest thing to time travel. When you're reading, the same part of your brain lights up as if you are experiencing it!"
A - "It makes me feel calm."

Litter picking day, Wadsworth Community Centre.
Well done for braving the bad weather to help keep Old Town tidy. Old Town pupils helped to collect around 5 bags of rubbish from around the Community Centre.
The Environment Agency recently did a workshop with Wadsworth Class and a local artist helped the children produce posters about local flooding issues. The work went on display as part of the local Open Space 70 event.

This year we supported the Hebden Bridge Rotary Club by entering the "Totally Quackers" decorated egg competition. The theme was 'Heritage' and entries were displayed in shop windows in Hebden Bridge.

Thanks to everyone who came to help out at the school gardening plot on Sunday. The sun came out for us and we managed to clear most of the weeds. The plot still needs a bit of TLC but it’s looking much better. If you fancy getting muddy and helping out, please keep your ears open for more gardening days in the coming months.
