Cross Country - Old Town Win HX7 Cross Country League for Second Year Running!

Old Town win HX7 XC League for second year!

OLD TOWN ARE ‘RUNAWAY WINNERS’ of the HX7 Cross Country League – 2019 / 2020 and have successfully defended their title from last season.

At every XC League event there have been a host of competitors from Old Town – more than any other school! We have had teams in every age group, with a new team of Year 6 girls (Boe, Danni, Izumi, Lorna, Karis & Evie-May) who deserve special mention as they won 8 of our total of 38 league points. Well done girls! Overall, we gained 38 league points, a long way ahead of second placed Burnley Road with 12 points.

With strong teams in each year group, it was no surprise that we had a lot of teams (and individuals) who qualified for the Calderdale Finals in Halifax on Wednesday, 15th January. The following children qualified & competed brilliantly:

Year 3 individuals: Rowan, George, Holly & Meg

Year 4 individuals: Ethan, Raffi & Torsten

Year 4 girls’ team: Pip, Mal, Adriana, Eliza & Violet

Year 5 individuals: Meadow

Year 5 boys’ team: Felix, Noah, Alfie H & Donovan

Year 6 boys’ team: Owen, Henry, Eric & Robert

21 children competing in the Calderdale Final – what a wonderful achievement!

THE NEXT PHASE IS THE WEST YORKSHIRE XC FINALS & THE CHILDREN – HIGHLIGHTED IN GREEN – HAVE ALL QUALIFIED TO COMPETE AT TEMPLE NEWSAM, LEEDS ON 4TH MARCH, 2020. WE WISH THEM ALL THE BEST OF LUCK.

Torsten (year 4), Noah (year 5) & Henry (year 6) have all qualified as individuals. The year 4 girls qualified as the 5th team too. Sadly, although the year 5 & year 6 boys scored enough points to possibly qualify (in 3rd & 4th place respectively), we needed to have had a team of 5 for the score of ‘first four past the post’ to count. We were left feeling frustrated & unlucky – but we’ll know for next year!

Congratulations to every child from Old Town who competed, even if it was for just one or two of the events. Everyone made a contribution to our amazing team effort.

Thank you from Mrs Vile to all the parents who attended the various events, helped out and cheered us on. You are FANTASTIC.
