English, Spellings and Reading

English, Reading & Spelling

Reading

We encourage children to be immersing themselves in reading as often as possible. Your child will have a reading book and library book and there are also many online websites that have a variety of online books that children can read.  A great example is: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading-owl/find-a-book but there are plenty of other resources available online too. In addition, children will be sent weekly reading comprehension tasks to complete to help develop their skills further.

Spellings

Spellings will be set on a Friday and it would be fantastic if you could please test your child later in the week.  Any spellings that they get incorrect could be rolled over and added to the following week’s spelling list.

Journal / Diary

The children in Class 3 have been asked to keep a journal / diary and make entries every day, if possible. I explained to the children that what is happening now, will be a huge part of the world’s history and that if they keep a journal / diary, they will be able to share their first hand experiences with future generations.

Spellings - Spring 1 (please use for home - learning this half term).

English

The lost thing is a story where the author creates a creature using every day objects/animals: a boiler, a crab and an octopus ( see this weeks timetable for an example picture)

Create your own creature by putting together common objects and animals. Draw your creature and label its features.

Use sub headings to develop an information text of how to care for it. These could be: habitat, diet, appearance, hygiene etc.

Use modal verbs (you did work on these yesterday) to ensure people know how to treat it: must, should, could, might

ENGLISH WEEKLY TASK . MONDAY 01ST JUNE Alongside this week's task, I would like the children the get involved in Pie Corbett's daily podcast. Full details and the link can be found on this week's timetable.

Spelling Lists - Spellings in red are for the children who do separate spellings
