Week 3- If you were travelling on the Titanic today, what different things might you take, compared with what you may have taken in 1914?

Lesson 3- "If you were travelling on the Titanic today, what different things might you take, compared with what you might have taken in 1912?"

Your first task this week, is to work through the BBC guide, 'What was life like on board the Titanic?'

When you're completing the activities and reading the information, think about the following questions:

  • Were all passengers allowed to explore all of the ship facilities?
  • Did all cabins look the same?
  • What were the similarities and differences between travelling 1st class, 2nd class and 3rd class onboard the Titanic?

Suitcase Activity:

Look at the child's suitcase below. This child is about to set sail on the Titanic in 1912, seeking a new life in New York with her family.

Are there any items in the suitcase below that look out of place? Can you explain why?

Activity 2:

Imagine you are a child setting sail on the Titanic. You may be travelling in third class with your family, seeking a new life in the USA. Or, you may be enjoying an extravagant holiday with your wealthy family in first class. Draw what you might pack in your suitcase. How is it different to what you might pack for a holiday today?
