Sports Round-up
We are near the end of the school year and have had a fantastic year of sport with many children involved. We have also had an unbelievable amount of success!
Our Cross Country league was so well attended and we were overall league champions. Additionally, teams from Year 3 (girls) and Year 4 (boys) qualified for the West Yorkshire Finals. Torsten also qualified as an individual. All our children competed brilliantly – Torsten was 35th - and out of the whole of West Yorkshire that’s an impressive result!!
We have sent teams to hockey at Year 5/6 and Year3/4 and the Year3/4’s won silver medals (Torsten, Rowan M, Noah, Alfie H, Tilly, Meadow, Donovan and Sebastian).
The Year 2’s all competed in the fun multiskills festival and they won too!!
Our Cricket was played at Old Town Cricket Club and our team was unbeaten in all their matches. As a result we qualified for Calderdale again but the event clashed with a Year 6 transitional day so unfortunately we were unable to go.
Next was the turn of Year 4 but the weather put paid to our day out and the event was cancelled. This was a pity as we were all set to represent Rwanda and had made lots of flags and bunting ready to go!
Old Town always do well at netball and three teams took part this year – 21 children competing at local level is superb. Our most experienced team beat Heptonstall in the final to become Calder Valley Champions. They travelled to Trinity Academy to compete in the Calderdale Finals but unfortunately missed out on qualification for the West Yorkshire Finals - they did well to come third.
The same day as the Netball finals, 19 children from Years 3-6 were at Spring Hall Track competing in the Athletics Festival – we were joint winners – with Wainstalls. Yet another trophy for our shelf.
Last but not least, there is the football and tag-rugby.
Our Year 5/6 football team have won their half of the league and will play Burnley Road in a final in July. We wish them luck!
Finally, we sent 2 tag rugby teams to Old Rishworthians RC to play against teams from all over Calderdale. Again we won – and have qualified for the West Yorkshire Finals. These are on Monday when the team will play at Leeds Metropolitan University and represent Calderdale against teams from Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford and Kirklees.
Phew…It’s been quite a year.
Well done to all and a huge thank you to parents for all their support – especially those who continually are able to help with transport.
