Mosaic – a piece of art or image made from the assemblage of small pieces of coloured glass, stone, or other materials. It is often used in decorative art or as interior decoration.
Class 4’s history topic was The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. During the topic, the children learned that rich Romans often decorated their villas with mosaics. Following that, the class looked at some pictures of Roman mosaics before working on their own contemporary designs.
The children worked collaboratively on four large mosaics constructed with small tiles on boards (see photos). They also had chance to create individual pieces using paper and small tiles which are displayed here.
