Hardcastle Crags Visit November 2019

Class 4 visited Hardcastle Crags on 28th November to enhance their geography topic about biomes and climate zones. Walking to Gibson Mill, the class stopped to look at examples of the features of vegetation they had been thinking about in class such as plant spacing, size, colours and structures. We found examples of epiphytes (ivy), evergreens (holly) and deciduous (beech, oak). Once at the mill, the class perused the exhibition ‘The Grimm Forest’ which consisted of eleven tree sculptures with hand-coloured images, inspired by stories collected by the brothers Grimm. Amongst them, we discovered well-known tales and some we were less familiar with. The children became thoroughly absorbed in the new stories as you can see from the photos…
